Despite being well educated, Chaula was unemployed for 14 years before he came to Neema because of his disability. He contracted polio at the age of 3, which meant he had to scratch a living by staying at home and repairing shoes whenever he could. Now at Neema he can afford his daily needs and send his children to school.
He says he loves his job, particularly making scarves. He designs them on different looms and enjoys seeing the finished products.
You can read Chaula's story and how Neema Crafts has made a difference to his life here.
Our blue and cream Ikat scarves are made from 100% cotton threads which have been sourced locally. Ikat is the traditional dyeing technique used to pattern the fabric before it is hand woven on a small loom by Chaula one of our talented weavers. It takes a day to weave one scarf.
All our items are hand made by people with disabilities in Tanzania and all profit goes back to supporting them. You can read their stories at www.neemacrafts.com.
Please be aware that because of the handmade nature of the product the colours may vary slightly from the image shown.
